Chris Dermody
President
Chris works as a management consultant at LOGIC consulting and as a guest lecturer at the German University in Cairo and the University of Maryland in the USA. Chris has a BSc in Management and an Entrepreneurship Fellowship at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. He has lived and worked in the USA, Australia, Tunisia and the Republic of Kiribati in a wide range of fields including Water desalination, Automotive, Social Entrepreneurship, Engineering, and Disabilities Services. Chris and his wife, Quincy, have one daughter attending CAC's elementary school.
Joe Versfelt (Parent of Alumni & CAC Board of Trustees Representative)
Vice President
Joe is the region exploration manager for Apache Egypt Companies. Joe attended small to large overseas schools as a child. He and his wife Graça have two children, one a CAC alumnus (Class of 2015) and the other an adult married with one child.
Deirdre A. Simon
Secretary/Treasurer
Deirdre is the director of accounting at International Schools Services, a private, non-profit organization serving American international schools overseas located in Princeton, New Jersey.
Sherif Gamal '81
Sherif is the senior manager of federal capture at Deloitte in Washington, D.C. A graduate of American University, Sherif has extensive experience in public relations and fundraising for international non-profit organizations, strategic international communications, government contracting, project management, change management, strategic planning, and proposal management. Sherif also supports CAC alumni relations efforts, most recently helping to organize the summer 2016 D.C. gathering.
Albert Fitts (Parent of Alumni)
Al is a colonel in the U.S. Air Force and Former Chief of Operations and Training Division at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo. Al has two children who attended CAC (Classes of 2013 and 2015, respectively).
Chris Wrona Giallongo (Parent of Alumni)
Chris is a programming and training specialist for the Europe, Mediterranean, and Asia regions for the U.S. Peace Corps. Chris has been working in the international development and community development fields since 1983. Her work spans the realms of NGO development, coaching, and governance; training, project management, program evaluation, and education. Chris has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California State University, Sacramento, a Master of International Affairs degree with a concentration in economic development from Columbia University; and a coaching certification from the NeuroLeadership Institute’s Results Coaching Systems. Chris has recently moved to the Washington, DC area with her husband and high-school aged son, and has a daughter (CAC Class of 2015) in college in California.
Mark Shalaby '91
Mark is the general counsel and member of the executive management committee of WIND Telecommunicazioni S.p.A., a leading Italian telecommunications operator offering mobile, Internet, fixed line voice and data products and services to consumer and corporate subscribers. Since joining WIND at its headquarters in Rome, Italy in February 2007, Mr. Shalaby has been responsible for supervising a wide array of operational, corporate, corporate finance, commercial contract and competition law matters, as well as administrative, civil and penal disputes. Mr. Shalaby attended CAC from 1982 until his graduation in 1991. His sister, Dolly Shalaby, is also a CAC graduate ('88) and current member of the faculty, and his mother, Magda Shalaby, has been an active part of the CAC family in a variety of capacities.
Maha Elshinnawy (Parent of Alumni) Dr. Maha ElShinnawy is a long time CAC Board member and is the CAC Board Chair for the 2019-2020 academic year. She is Professor of Leadership and Ethics at The American University in Cairo (AUC) and is the Founding Director of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women’s Entrepreneurship and Leadership Program. Dr. ElShinnawy has been recognized for her teaching, research and service excellence at UCLA, Texas A&M University and The American University in Cairo. She is a Certified Extraordinary and Values Driven Leadership Coach and served in The Academy of Future International Leaders at the George Bush School of International Business of Texas A&M University.
May Oweiss (Parent) Ms. Oweiss is a psychologist who specializes in providing assistance to children with special educational needs. For the past seventeen years, Ms. Oweiss has been running a franchise called Academic Associates, where she coaches children with learning difficulties. She also worked alongside with Ain Shams University, developing and delivering training seminars for coaches on how to develop and implement programs for special needs students. Ms. Oweiss graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, from the American University in Cairo. She and her husband Sherif have three children attending CAC two in high school and one in elementary school.
